We've been very busy since moving. We have projects galore! It seems everything has become a project now. Even picture blogging. So, alas, here is a picture update. I tried taking some fall pics of the kids, but Lyla wasn't in the mood to cooperate. She was supposed to be Audrey Hepburn for Halloween, but she ended up determining how she was going to dress. Some people thought we dressed her as black swan. Let me assure you - that is NOT what we intended. Ezra was a lobster in a pot.I didn't include any pictures of Richard's eye, but he's doing well. Just before Halloween Rich was working on a project. He was using his pocket knife as leverage to pop out a screw that was too tight. While he pulled back, he lost control and the knife went straight through the eyeball. We think it went about a quarter inch through. Into the ER we went. He had surgery that night and has since been on the road to recovery. He'll likely need several surgeries. As of today, his eye is looking good (all things considering). He has little to no vision (mostly cloudy and blurry). He is expected to regain his eyesight with surgeries and corrective glasses. WANTED: TIME THIEF. There is no other explanation than a time thief. How is it that Ezra is now 7 months old???

FOUND: FOOD THIEF. (We found the food thief in the tub. The proof was found in the rolls.)

Heidi and (our new brother-inlaw) John were recently sealed. They had some pics taken with all the nieces and nephews.

Just a few of our sweet lil' Lyla May. And when I say sweet, yes - she is sweet. But she's also developed a bit of a potty mouth. The tiniest bit of frustration puts her into a "damn it" frenzy. It's hard to discipline her and keep a straight face.

We've been up to our eyeballs in dust. We recently bought a home in east Millcreek and we've been doing some renovations. When I say "we" I mean Richard and his crew (Colin, Colin, Chad, Mike, Brian, and Gail). They first destroyed the house and now they're in the progress of putting it back together again. We should have before and after photos soon.

In an effort to get out of Richard's hair, the kids, myself, and my mom took a road trip to Cheyenne, WY for Grandma May's 91st birthday. Ezra did really well for his first road trip. Lyla was such a star. She is so easy going and makes traveling with a 2.5 year old a breeze. Here's a few snap shots:

Almost an entire summer flew by before Ezra had his first encounter with a swimming pool. As long as Lyla was in sight, Ezra loved the being in the pool.

Most of you probably already know, but if you don't or didn't get the full run-down, here it is. Two weeks ago Lyla got a cold with a fever, runny nose, and wicked cough. It was only a matter of time before Ezra got it. Surprisingly, it took 8 days before he started showing signs. On Tuesday morning I noticed he started to cough a little. It didn't progress until Wednesday night when he wasn't interested in eating, and if you know Ezra - that is rare! This boy chows! Thursday mid-morning he started coughing really bad and started to choke. He turned a deep, deep red (almost purple) before he stopped. I immediately called the pediatrician. Fortunately, their office is a short 3 blocks away. They were able to get us right in. His doctor hooked him up to a breathing monitor and once we saw he was only breathing at 82%, they put him on oxygen and told us we needed to take him to the hospital. Because he was on oxygen at that point, we were required to take him in an ambulance. We checked into the ER and an hour later we were admitted to the NICU based on the diagnosis that he had contracted bronchiolitis through RSV. We stayed Thursday through late Saturday afternoon. He's been sent home on oxygen, but is doing really well. The hospital was running at capacity with babies with RSV. Ezra shared a room with 5 other sick babies. According to the nurses, Ezra's case was one of the more mild cases in the hospital. I believed it because the other 4 in his room were just miserable. It was so sad. These poor sick babies!!!

Last Tuesday we went to FotoFly for a mini photo session. After a long temper tantrum from Lyla, and 4 outfit changes later (via her request) we ended up with a few sweet snapshots of her and "Ez."

Today, Ezra is a week old. My friend Liz grabbed her camera today and snapped a few pics of Ezra. Thanks Liz! You're the best! Lyla is absent as she refused to cooperate, instead she played with Ella (Liz's daughter).

Wide Eyed

I woke up Thursday morning wide eyed. The back contractions started about 6:30 AM. I was pretty sure this was it. So, we packed the bags and headed to the hospital. 3.5 hours later I was in OR having a c-section.

Ezra Zeke Larsen was born at 2:31 PM, 7 LBS. 10 OZ. and 21 inches long. He's a studly dude and thus far, a chill little dude. We're so thrilled he's happy, healthy, and handsome! We feel so blessed and would like to thank all of our family, friends, and hospital staff for your continued love and support during this exciting time.

Lyla and Ezra shared a wide-eyed moment when they met. Lyla wasn't too sure about having a baby in mom's lap, but she did enjoy him in her lap. She kept talking about his lips and for some reason I think in the near future I'll find her putting lip stick on those "little lips" she was so obsessed with.

I had some requests from the fam to post Lyla's Halloween pics. We took her to my mom's office and my sister's office to go trick or treating. She caught onto the idea quickly and still asks for "cany" (candy) to put in her pillow case.

I took Lyla out before the snow fall to snap some pics of her in the leaves. My hope was to capture the perfect picture for our Christmas card, but like my last few attempts of getting Lyla more interested in the camera than she is in what's around her proves complicated.

So we tried it again... but brought her friend Briggs along. She was more interested in giving him kisses than looking at boring mom.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

I've been absent from the blog world for a bit. We took our second baby moon to Vancouver, Canada and had a great time! We stayed a night in Whistler - it was amazing and beautiful! The drive there alone was killer! We also stayed in downtown Vancouver and Seattle, where we hit a Seahawks game. We had a great time! Don't mind my large protruding belly or my swollen face...

Lyla recently went in for her first hair cut. She did great! She only cried when I made her leave...

I attempted to take Lyla to a pumpkin patch in her Halloween costume to snap some photos... It was a bit too sunny and looking at Mom behind the camera was not interesting to an 18 month old (PS. can you believe she's a year and a half???).

I took Lyla downtown to try and get some fun pics of her, but of course she'd rather do anything than look at boring Mom.

Notice the one with her funny face? Her had is down her pants. It's a new habit we can't quite break.

Last week, Lyla had a great time playing with Grandpa and Kristine at East Canyon. She especially loved the pool.

Friday night we decided to take Lyla to the Utah State Fair. She had a lot of fun looking at the animals, eating awesome fried foods, and riding on the Merry-Go-Round. Lyla also combined her first sentence! We took her to see the goat and when one of the goats got a little too close to her face Lyla loudly said, "go away! go away!"

Saturday morning we celebrated Lyla's friend Oliver's 4th Birthday. We had so much fun hiking silver lake, floating wooden boats, and eating muffins and drinking hot chocolate! Happy Birthday Oliver and thanks for a fun party Brooklyn!

Lyla has a new passion. She loves pushing her doll and bunny around the neighborhood in her toy stroller. That's all she ever wants to do. "Side!" Is all I hear when we're inside. She wants to go out"side" every waking minute of her life... and if she's not outside pushing her doll and bunny, she's inside ramming the stroller into the door and begging to go "side!"

Two weeks ago, my Grandma May had her 90th birthday! We made the trek to Lovell, Wyoming and had a great time with family. Lyla thoroughly enjoyed playing with great aunts, uncles, and second cousins. Thanks everyone for making the trip! We had a great time! Lyla also enjoyed some good ol' Farson, WY ice cream.

Lyla has had a lot of fun dressing up in her tutu that Grandma got for her.

To those we haven't shared our exciting news, we are sorry. Lyla is going to be a big sister to a little brother!

I've been absent from the blog world for one very good reason - we're expecting! Baby number 2 is due Feb. 2nd! It's been a rough few months, but thanks to Richard, family, and dear friends we've gotten through the first trimester. Lyla has been having fun in her new rocking chair. This chair was once my dad's, then mine, and now Lyla's.

On the 24th of July, we went to Bear Lake. We rented a wave runner (don't worry folks, I didn't take a ride - I enjoyed the view from the beach... right along side with my barf bucket) and had a great day at the beach!

Surgical Repair

After seeing a specialist last Wednesday, the surgeon recommended that Lyla have a skin graft on her middle finger. So, Friday morning came and we took Lyla in for her first surgery. Thanks to a great medical team her surgery was a success and Lyla is recovering great. Lyla will be wearing her cast for a 2-3 weeks and then she'll wear a glove on her hand to help the graft take place. The glove could be worn potentially up to a year. Here's some pics of her finger pre-op.

Accidents of all sorts

Lyla has had a rough last couple of weeks. Several weeks ago, while I wasn't watching, Lyla played in Huck's dog bowl. He's usually very good with her, but his food is his food. He nipped her right under her eyes, leaving her with 2 little black eyes. They healed quickly and thankfully they didn't leave a scar. Although that didn't leave a scar, a severe burn on her hand might. 9 days ago Lyla put her hand in a candle flame and scorched it pretty good. We've been doing a lot of home treatments, but this morning we woke up and her hand was extra swollen and red. We took her into an instant care and they referred us to the burn unit at the U of U. It's not quite as bad as it sounds, but since she's still crawling on her hands, they're worried about infection. She's okay, we just have to keep a close eye on it. I haven't taken any photos since her blisters broke, but the following should give you an idea of what her poor hand (and eyes ) have suffered. (Sorry the hand pic is blurry, it's the best we could do.)

On a more fun note, Lyla has had some fun the past couple of weeks too. We bought her a jogging stroller that also turns into a bike trailer. She loves it! I don't think she loves the helmet that comes with it...

We took Lyla for her first bike ride to Antelope Island. We just biked the cause way and then back, but she had a good time munchin' on some snacks and taking a break to watch the birds.

Over Valentine's weekend, we went with our friends the DeGraff's, Law's, Phipps', and Santos' to Jackson Hole. We had a blast. Thank you EVERYONE for contributing to an unforgettable trip! Besides sitting around and eating and eating and eating, we managed to clock a few hours sledding, jumping off roofs, and sloggin-boggin (thanks for the intro to the sport, Adam). Lisa took Gold in the screams and Dave took gold in the smallest-biggest bully.

As many of you probably know, I mainly post pics on the blog routinely so that my bro. serving a mission can keep updated on his cute lil' niece in which he still hasn't met (5 months can't come fast enough!). So, this post is short and sweet.

I'm always looking for new ways to entertain Lyla all the while trying to get things done (mainly homework. If you've come to my house lately you'll know I'm not too focused on keeping it tidy). So, I've found Lyla's new favorite hang out - the dryer...

Over the weekend we took our little Lyla to the park for a day (more like an hour) of swinging, slides, and tubes! How fun it is to be a kid again! Here's a few pictures (okay, okay - A LOT!):

I took these photos awhile back and recently sent out a Halloween card to some family. I wanted to post these pics so bad! How darling is my lil' strawberry?

Recently, I've been doing some sewing. Before you critique my skills, keep in mind the last time I sewed anything was in 7th grade home ec. I've given these as gifts, made some for Lyla, and made some by request for some friends so THEY could give them as gifts. I've been having fun behind the machine... The owl shirt and bib I made for Lyla and she models them well in the photos above.

6 Months

Lyla is now 6 months... what the heck? I never in my wildest dreams knew time could pass this quickly. On the contrary, sometimes time seems to stand still. Those are the brief moments when Lyla wakes in the middle of the night screaming because her teeth are coming in. Poor Lyla, poor Huck, and our poor neighbors... Sorry Steph and Byron!

4 Generations

This picture means a lot to me. It's not very often you're able to take a picture of 4 generations of gals. This is my grandma May, in which Lyla May was named after. She is the sweetest lady ever. If you're wondering why I'm so good looking (wink, wink), just take a look at my gorgeous ma and grandma. Lyla is destined to be beautiful. haha. On a more serious note though, I love my grandma dearly. She's nearly 90. I hope over the years I'm able to share great stories about grandma May to Lyla so that she too may grow to love and appreciate this awesome gal!

Where were you one 9.11.01? I remember walking into my world civ class my sophomore year of high school and seeing (what I knew them as then) Twin Towers blazing in smoke. I didn't realize at the time the significance of the World Trade Centers, but that day; I'm sure just like the rest of you, changed my life. We took Lyla to Sandy City where ever year they put up a flag for each person who was tragically killed. It's a nice way to remember the great loss our country took on that day.

We have a binki problem. We've been pretty good at not allowing Lyla to have binki and it's mostly been because she doesn't like them. Not until we found this one anyway...

Lyla has also picked up a new habit of growling. We captured it on video while we were in Jackson Hole. The first growl you hear is Richard, so don't think Lyla has some satanic growl (that would be her dad).

We had a BBQ at my dad's last Sunday, and here's a family pic for my lil' bro to appreciate.

Catching Up

This summer has flown by! I can't believe it! Lyla is 5 months old! It seems as though each month goes by faster than the last. Over the past several weeks we've been able to go to Las Vegas, Snowbird, and Jackson Hole. My "cousin" Katherine (what would you call someone you consider family, and your step-father is her godfather? Exactly, so - she will be referred as my cousin) and her delightful friend Penny came to visit us from England. We had loads of fun with them. They made great babysitters and wonderful company. We are sad to see them go. Here's a few photo's from the past few weeks. We'll start in Las Vegas, a fun trip with out friends Kent and Missie and they're handsome son, Derek.

Lyla is just over 3 months! Where does the time go? It passes in moments of nursing, diaper changes, late nights, early mornings, splashes in the water, nap times, most mostly, you spend 8,294,400 seconds kissing this baby until your lips are chapped! Here's a few from the past few days and some from her blessing. The pictures of her in her dress were taken with another camera, so I'll post those soon.

And blogger is being wacky, so these photo's are all out of order!

Oh, and I got a new car. I forgot to take pics for my bro on a mission to see, so I just stole some from online. It's rad. I love it so much! The rockford fosgate system isn't too shabby either! I'm hoping to put some white rims on it... we'll see if I can convince the hubby. Thanks babe!

This past weekend we went to Moab for a wedding party for our friends. We had a great time and we're happy that Lyla's first trip went smoothly. She did so well, we couldn't be more proud. We hit the river for some river rafting (I did the morning half and Richard was able to jump on in the afternoon while Lyla watched from the side). We weren't able to do too much hiking, but hitting the shops was just as fun. It was a long weekend for us all, and poor Lyla was exhausted on our way home. I recorded her sleeping. You'll have to excuse my recording abilities - I took this from the front seat of the truck with luggage on both sides of her and held the camera in a position where I couldn't see what I was recording... so, just listen to her little noises... so cute!

2 Months and 1 Day

Yesterday Lyla had her 2 month birthday. And although I'm posting a day late, these photos were taken yesterday. It's amazing the growth she's had in such a short time. We're slowly getting her on a schedule and a few nights ago she slept 7.5 hours! We were shocked and hope her progress continues.

I really feel silly updating the blog with pictures every week, but as I always state, the purpose is to keep my brother who is on a mission updated with my cute little one.

During the day, I let Lyla take a nap on her tummy (don't worry fellow parents, she is monitored by both Huck and I). This is Huck's favorite time of day as he likes to be with her. Generally I don't let him sleep this close, but today it was just too cute not to.

When visitors come, Huck likes to make sure Lyla is okay in the arms of anyone else other than Mom and Dad, even including Grandma... Again, I don't usually like him to be so close to her (or even on the pillow!) but he's just too cute and sometimes gets his own way. How can you say no to that face?

I don't think I've ever blogged 3 posts in the space of 2 weeks... I guess it helps when you have a lil' cutie to blog about. Though, I'm not really sure posting photos counts as blogging. Our Lyla is a doll. And even though she never sleeps longer than 2.5 hours and it takes at least an hour to get her to sleep, she's totally worth all the sleepless nights.

At last, our beautiful baby is here. Mike Law, this is for you.
Monday - 6:00 AM I woke up with severe back pain
12:00 - The doctor decides it sounds serious enough to see me.
2:00 - Admitted to the hospital with the suspicion it was a UTI.
Tuesday - 4:00 AM - Labor and Delivery release me to "normal" hosital room.
12:00 - Contractions spike and back labor returns
12:30 - Admitted back to labor and delivery in preperation for C-Section
4:00 PM - Wheeled to the operating room
4:39 PM - Lyla May born at 6 lbs. 1 oz and 19.5 inches long
Wednesday - 12:00 Midnight - Finally time to blog about my sweet baby girl.

Gail, I love ya!!! Thanks for the phone call. It really helped me and I know it's because of your prayers and faith that we're both doing well.

Lyla was born exactly 4 weeks early. She's in the NICU being treated for under developed lungs. We're so blessed to have a healthy baby. She's improving by the hour and we couldn't be more thrilled. We can't wait to take our little bundle of joy home to meet her brother, the puggle.

Over this past weekend we celebrated our 3 year anniversary in Las Vegas. It's hard to believe 3 years has come and gone. We had a great time in Las Vegas for our last get-a-way before the kiddies start coming.

Welcome 2009

We're very excited and nervous for this upcoming year! With Lyla May on her way Richard has been working hard around the house to get things squared away for when she comes. I feel her kick, punch, and move all day and all night long. I'm hoping with all her wiggles and squirms she'll be so tired when she arrives she'll just sleep. Although, I'm not counting on it.

2008 was a big year for us. We adopted Huck, bought our home, went to DC, Boston, and Bermuda, sent my brother on a mission to Minnesota, got pregnant, celebrated the news of friends and my sister and her fiance getting engaged! We certainly had a lot of fun this past year and look forward to welcoming our little girl into the world in April.

I've been meaning to post about pregnancy for a long time, but just haven't found the time (aka - I'm too lazy) or have felt too sick (aka - that excuse only works when you throw up on her first day of school). There are things that the doctors, friends, family, and books don't warn you about - so let me warn all those of you out there.

Pregnancy is not fun. "They" say that there is a pregnancy glow to us pregnant folk - this is false. They tell you this because they know how fragile our little emotions are and want us to be happy. If we're happy - so is everyone else. So, don't expect to glow - you won't. You might start to catch on fire when you get what I like to call the "flaming boob syndrome." This was not in any book I read and when my boobs literally (okay, not literally) caught on fire, I thought I was having something uncommon. I caught a temperature and from my chest up, I was boiled red. NOT glowing red. Again, let me remind you, there is no glow. Just flames. When you get the flaming boob it can last for a few seconds, a few minutes, or in my case, a few hours. The good news is your boobs get a lot bigger after. I wasn't warned of the extra odd food cravings. I was warned some crave dirt, others crave pickles with peanut butter, and some might even crave nasty fast food. I wasn't however, warned of the week of eating only foods that resembled men's genitalia. Yep, all I wanted for a week straight was egg rolls, bananas, pop sickles, corn dogs, and hot dogs. People don't tell you this because they're too embarrassed. I'm not embarrassed - I'm pregnant! I've been told to start preparing my body to breast feed by taking a tooth brush to my... err... dare I say? Well, you know what I mean. The book, doc, and folks say it "stings." Goodness! STINGS? Are you kidding me? Stings is a word you use when a tiny bee pokes you, not when a toothbrush tears off your skin and then you have to put bag balm (the same ointment used on dairy cows' utters) all day and be happy!

Books, people, etc. warn you of the following, but I'm not sure they really include how BIG some of these things are. Here a few things we've experienced. Fighting, fighting, yelling, and fighting with our insurance company. That's a big deal. My book gives a paragraph about how frustrating it can be dealing with the insurance. Frustrating is an under statement. Just pay my damn bill! Dealing with being huge. All the books and folks say to embrace your beautiful pregnant belly. I'm not upset I'm big; just not feeling quite as cute as they say you are. Your belly gets big. AND I SWEAR it happens overnight. It's like one night you eat the whole jar of peanut butter and the next morning - bam! There's your baby and there's your big belly.

However, not to get all cliche because this post has been all the opposite of that, being pregnant has been a wonderful experience. It's been hard, no doubt about it. But it's also been so wonderful. Feeling Lyla kick and now actually being able to see her move under my skin is... a miracle! Honestly. It's so amazing. I'm thrilled for what's next!

If you haven't been, you should go. It's so cool! My sister, her boyfriend Brian, Richard and I took my cousin Sam from England to check out the US Ski Team practice their aerials into the pool. It was pretty cool to watch. And of course anytime you're in PC, you have to hit the Alpine Slide. I killed my cousin in our race, and Brian, my sisters' boyfriend was bound and determined to win... he was going so fast he fell of the track! Poor guy hurt his arm and lost his flip-flop!
